Harnessing microbiology to tackle global challenges

Biography

I am a Prostate Cancer UK funded Research Fellow in the Cancer Genetics team at Norwich Medical School. I currently work on using in silico approaches to investigate microbial DNA in prostate cancer sequencing data. I am particularly interested in investigating whether bacteria may explain the elevated risk and aggressiveness of prostate cancer seen in men of African ancestry.

My first degree was Biomedical Science (BSc hons) at the University of Lincoln. From there I worked in clinical trials where I became interested in cancer and persued an MSc in Cancer Therapeutics from Queen Mary University of London. I joined the Cancer Genetics team for my PhD where I investigated the prospect of identifying microbes in cancer sequencing data.
