Biography

I am an Environmental Microbiologist with interests in Molecular Biology and ‘omics research. My research in my PhD and Postdoctoral positions (2014 – 2021) focused on using culture-dependent and independent techniques to study the role that bacteria play in the cycling of key sulfur compounds in saltmarsh environments, including dimethyl sulfide – an important volatile compound that is also the smell people associate with the sea.

Since 2022 I have been employed by UEA as a Lecturer in Microbiology, where I now teach full time on a number of Microbiological topics, with particular emphasis on Environmental Microbiology and Mycology. I am also passionate about outreach and helping people understand the important role that microbes play on this planet.
