Biography

I am a phage biologist and taxonomist with a passion for everything viral. I did an MSc and PhD in Bioscience Engineering at the University of Leuven (Belgium) and was a postdoc at the University of Pretoria (South Africa) and the University of Liverpool. My research focuses on understanding the role viruses play in shaping healthy microbiomes and how we can use specific viruses, like bacteriophages to improve health or treat disease. I am the current Vice President of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV).
