Group Leader
I lead a cross discipline team focussed on developing new methods and tools for in situ and real time metagenomics. The group works on a diverse range of applications, including pathogen diagnostics from clinical samples, surveillance of airborne plant and animal pathogens and analysis of environmental metagenomes. Much of what we do is focussed on nanopore technology, though we also work with other platforms. I originally graduated in Physics and spent 10 years working as a Software Engineer before undertaking a PhD in Computational Biology and postdoctoral positions prior to becoming a group leader.
