Over the last four decades, I have built up an international reputation as a Scientific Leader in infectious disease research. I have set up and utilised experimental models of dangerous diseases to test vaccines, drugs and therapeutics against a wide range of infectious public health threats.
More recently, in collaboration with the University of Liverpool, UKHSA, University of Hull and a large team of QIB staff, we have developed human models of both infectious and non-infectious disease. Our working hypothesis is that some early onset neurological diseases are triggered by dysbiosis of the gut. We aim to use human tissue to emulate such diseases to develop preventative or therapeutic interventions to ensure healthy ageing in the human population.
