Associate Professor in Infection & Immunity
I’m a cellular microbiologist with an interest in human bacterial infections. I studied in Germany and obtained my PhD at the University of Würzburg. Afterwards, I worked as a postdoc at Imperial College and UCL before establishing my own research group at the Norwich Medical School.
Our work focusses on the pathogenesis of intestinal E. coli associated with diarrhoea, IBD and colorectal cancer and their interactions with the intestinal mucosa and resident microbiota. To this aim, we are employing advanced human in vitro models including polarized cell lines, microaerobic diffusion chambers, in vitro organ culture and adult stem cell-derived organoids.
