Harnessing microbiology to tackle global challenges

Biography

I am an experienced biochemist specialising in protein-protein interactions and the molecular mechanisms that bacteria use to respire in the absence of oxygen. My research has focused on the outer membrane systems that are used to exchange electrons with the extracellular environment, in particular within the model family Shewanella.

I have been member of the BBSRC Metals in Biology NIBB for many years, which has led to participation in the recent ELEMENTAL mission hub. I have also been an external board member of the Danish ‘Centre for Electromicrobiology’.
